The Holocaust and Representation in History and Culture (P02009)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 11 ? Acronym : LLC-P-P02009 This course introduces students to the representation of the Holocaust in different cultural forms since 1945. Examining how the Holocaust continues to impact European collective and individual memory and imagination, the course is structured around the analysis of memory debates in distinct fields: history and historiography, public rituals of commemoration and material culture, literature, theology, and philosophy. Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course, the students will:
- Be able to contextualise and evaluate critically theoretical approaches to Holocaust representation, and will have a sensitivity to the ethical implications of the theories they study - Have an overview of major debates on Holocaust representation in post-war Europe - Be able to work with historical, literary [and other?] texts in a manner informed by the theoretical material on the course, as well as testing the usefulness of theory against these texts.
