Historical Context, Scottish History Division (P02154)

Students will compile a bibliography of secondary works relevant to their specific subject, in consultation with their supervisors. They will glean from these works material relevant to their subject and compile a folder of notes for use in the Historiography course and in the writing of the dissertation.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

Students will acquire:
- An appreciation of the historical context of their individual area of research;
- An ability to analyse, assimilate and deploy critically a range of secondary literature relevant and essential to their individual research subject;
- An ability to identify historical continuities and contrasts;
- The ability to assimilate and process a wide range of information from a variety of secondary sources.

Assessment Information

Assessed within the context of the three essays required under the coursework and dissertation mode of the MSc by Research in History (Scottish History Division).
