Primary Sources, Scottish History Division (P02155)

Students will identify and locate primary sources, whether printed or archival, which are essential to their specific field of study. They will write an assignment of 6,000 words explaining the relevance and importance of these sources for the thesis which they intend to present in the dissertation.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

Students will acquire:
- An ability to identify and deploy critically relevant primary historical sources.
- The ability to undertake textual analysis.
- An understanding of the interaction between historical sources and explanation.
- An ability to comprehend the nature of historical perspective.

Assessment Information

Assessed within the context of the three essays required under the coursework and dissertation mode of the MSc by Research in History (Scottish History Division.
