Twentieth-Century Africa: Ethnicity, Class and Power (P02273)

This course deals with the comparative history of at least two African states which may change from year to year. It deals with the role of the colonial and post-colonial states in mediating access to sources and the manner in which ethnicity and class have played themselves out in politics and through popular culture.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

To inculcate an understanding of comparative approaches to
African history, as well as an appreciation of debates relating to the specific country studies. To develop transferable analytical, theoretical, and presentational skills along with a practical awareness of cultural difference.
