Urban Research Project (P02309)? Credit Points : 60 ? SCQF Level : 11 ? Acronym : ACE-P-ACE This is dissertation-type course involving work in various digital and analogue media that will be a product of individual or group work. The project will be supervised as a dissertation would be. It will focus on a topic to be developed in discussion with the course organiser. But students are encouraged to develop topics that relate to their own motivations in urban research. Topics may be developed over the course of semester 2, with the final submission date being in September. The central academic concerns of this course are the integration and development of specified theoretical themes, empirical material and methodologies appropriate to the analysis of contemporary urban conditions. The course has three main outcomes:
1) Capacity to integrate theory, empirical data and methods appropriate to analysis of a specified aspect of the contemporary city 2) Understanding of the inter-play of theory, method and data in an inter-disciplinary framework 3) Ability to develop and test hypotheses on contemporary urban themes, and draw conclusions that have the potential to advance knowledge on some aspect of the city. Written dissertation and project work equivalent to 12,000 words.
