Hegel's God: Advanced Readings in Hegel's Phenomenology of Spirit (P02326)

This course introduces students to the main themes and problems of Hegel’s Phenomenology of Spirit above all in connection with questions about God and modern society.

Entry Requirements

? Pre-requisites : Students in Divinity and Philosophy with relevant philosophical background. Other students may be admitted at the discretion of the course manager

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to:
(1) Rehearse the major issues raised by Hegel in connection with the prior tradition
(2) Rehearse the major arguments deployed by Hegel to criticise Kant's transcendental idealism
(3) Explain and critique Hegel's account of 'revealed religion'
(4) Explain and critique Hegel's account of 'absolute knowing' and the place of God in it.

Assessment Information

As per normal assessment in School of Divinity for level 11 courses.
(One 3000 word essay)
