Contemporary Themes in Therapeutic Practices 2 (P02389)

The aim of this course is to introduce students to new ideas and concepts of relevance to counselling practice. The precise focus will vary from year to year but we expect to include such themes as working across cultures; the supervision of supervisors and the training of trainers; and tensions between principles of autonomy and community in therapeutic practices.

Entry Requirements

? Pre-requisites : As for the MSc Counselling Studies (Advanced Practice). The course is available as Continuing Professional Development as well as running as an option with the MSc Counselling Studies (Advanced Practice).

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

- critically assess and synthesise research and scholarship on specific themes in therapeutic practices
- identify and conceptualise current debates about therapeutic practices
- understand the relevance of new concepts in psychodynamic and/or person-centred thinking for therapeutic practice
- formulate questions for theory and practice on specific topics of debate in counselling and psychotherapy

Assessment Information

One 2,500 word essay on a topic agreed with the course organiser
