Dress and Identity in the Roman Empire (P02474)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 11 ? Acronym : HCA-P-DAIRE The introduction of this new course is necessitated by the need to maintain a sufficient degree of choice for students. The course focuses on dress in the Roman world and aims to familiarise students with this realm of material culture and current research in this field. In recent years, scholars have begun to realise that dress choice could reflect identity (status, gender, ethnicity) and that, as such, the study of dress behaviour holds enormous potential for Roman cultural and social history. The course will be interdisciplinary in character, drawing on theoretical models from the social sciences as well as written, pictorial and other archaeological sources.
