Film and the Other Arts (P02477)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 11 ? Acronym : LLC-P-P02477 This course will explore the relationship between film, literature and the other arts – theatre, painting, sculpture, photography, music, video art. A relatively ‘young’ art form, one of modernity’s off-spring, film initially established itself as both a threat and a challenge to the other arts. While film, poised at the frontier between art and industry, and with a ‘language’ of its own, has struggled to impose itself as an art form proper, its advent and evolution has continued to raise anew theoretical issues of representation, expression, and the relationship between art and reality, that are central to consideration of any artistic practice.
