Outward Investement from Emerging Markets II (P02510)

Description: This module focuses on outward investment and multinational companies from emerging markets. It will examine the complex debates and struggles over the theories associated with international business and globalisation, in particular, the perceived nature of the outward capital flows from developing countries. It will also look at the practical issues involved in outward investment, including government policies and strategies, global political and economic environment, experience of East Asian economies, business activities at both industry level and firm level. Teaching materials are largely based on cases studies which help students to understand the practical problems and develop analytical skills in the concrete context.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

Outcomes: At the end of the module, students will be able to understand the current theoretical debate over international business and globalisation and their implications to both emerging and developed markets. Also, they are expected to be able to identify and critically evaluate the practical issues involved in outward investment, such as economic and political transition in developing countries, and competitive challenges to enter into the global market, government policies, strategies that are pursued at firm levels.
