Business and Climate Change (P02555)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 11 ? Acronym : MSE-P-CMBCC This course first introduces the concept corporate carbon footprints and their assessment. It goes on to cover the various management polices currently used by companies to reduce carbon emissions and the ethics of such mitigation. It examines the supply chain and the influence businesses have in effecting change in the carbon footprint of this chain. Finally it closely examines the investment basis for climate mitigation by business, the perceived barriers to this investment, and the legislative drivers for change. Entry Requirements? Pre-requisites : Students on other School of GeoSciences and School of Business and Economics MSc programmes may enrol by prior agreement between relevant Programme Directors and the Course Organiser. • High-level understanding of the corporate carbon footprint and its calculation
• Familiarity with management policies to derive reduced carbon emissions and corporate ethics • Ability to evaluate importance of upstream and downstream carbon management policies with business supply chains • In-depth knowledge investment in climate change mitigation by business, the barriers and relevant legislation Assessment Information
• Group presentation of specific and relevant topic using Problem Based Learning methodology. Assessed by minimum of 2 course lecturers.
• Multiple choice examination in December • Written exam in April. Essay-based: 2 from a choice of 5, each of approx. 1,500 words Exam times
