The Middle-East in International Politics (PO0070)

? Credit Points : 20  ? SCQF Level : 11  ? Acronym : SPS-P-PME

The Middle East in the twentieth century has seen the disbanding of old
empires, emergence of new nation-states, and devastating wars throughout.
In the din the conflict have created, many aspects of Middle East politics
are pushed to the background. In this course, the legacies of these
conflicts - especially those of Israel with its Arab neighbours and with
Palestinians as well as the three Gulf Wars - will be examined, but we
will also attend to popular protest, US foreign policy in the Middle East,
the role of oil in the economy, to political ideologies such as Islamism,
and to the role and representation of women in Middle East politics.
