Psychology 2 (PS0002)? Credit Points : 40 ? SCQF Level : 8 ? Acronym : PPL-2-PS2-PS This course aims to develop students' understanding of the interplay between research evidence and theoretical approaches in contemporary scientific psychology, as well as making links to relevant historical background in the following core areas: Neuropsychology; sociobiology, genetics and evolution of behaviour; perception and cognition; developmental psychology and learning; differential and social psychology; research design, methodology and statistics in psychology. Entry Requirements? Pre-requisites : Psychology 1 ? Special Arrangements for Entry : A quota of 200 students: students with degrees including Psychology will be seeded for priority access. Laboratory space limits practical class sizes: enrolment is contingent on availability of a place in one of the 5 scheduled practical sessions. By the end of the course, students should have an understanding of the different approaches used to investigate psychological issues and the means by which psychologists obtain and evaluate evidence and draw conclusions in various areas of psychology. They should know how to perform psychological experiments, how to carry out non-experimental research in psychology, how to interpret and draw quantitative conclusions from psychological data and how to present psychological results and summarise theoretical knowledge relevant to a particular topic in a clear, well-organised manner
Assessment Information
30% for practical reports and 70% degree exams.
To fulfil the course requirements requires: participation in the laboratory course practicals (and submission of 4 practical reports), in addition to the two semester examinations Exam times
