Health Policy and Politics in Europe (SP0073)

This course seeks to introduce students to a core area of public policy, the organisation, finance and regulation of health and health care. The focus is on recent and current processes of change and reform, while the approach is comparative, referring specifically to the larger states of western Europe. Due attention is paid to theories of the state, and to topical issues such as devolution and internationalisation. Assessment: 4,000-word essay.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

This course aims to develop understandings of:
othe delivery, finance and regulation of health and health care;
othe use of cross-national comparison in politics and public policy, and
othe nature and functioning of the contemporary state.
