Swedish 1A (SS0005)

An intensive course in spoken and written Swedish for students with no previous knowledge of the language. Introduction to modern Swedish literature and civilisation with selected texts. The course is open to students of all years but not to students qualified for admission to Swedish 1B. A good deal of private study is necessary in order to meet the requirements of the course.

Entry Requirements

? Pre-requisites : A pass in Higher Grade (SCE) or at Advanced level (GCE) in a modern or classical language, or equivalent evidence of linguistic proficiency

? Prohibited combinations : Cannot be taken in conjunction with Danish and Swedish.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

To provide a firn grounding in the Swedish language and an introduction to literary and cultural issues.

Assessment Information

3 pieces of written work; 1 oral assessment; 1 two-hour class exam. Continuous assessment 50%; class examination 10%; oral examination 10%; degree examination 30%.
