The Sociology of Race Relations (SY0024)

This class explores the sociology of ‘race’ and ethnicity in a variety of historical and contemporary contexts. While the class is analytically organized, the material covered is empirically-grounded and broadly comparative in scope. Topics include indigenous and aboriginal peoples, the construction and maintenance of ethnic and religious identities, ethnic violence, multiculturalism and the politics of difference, ethnic cleansing and genocide, refugees and internally displaced persons, and immigration.
