Contemporary Issues in Nationalism Studies II (SY0079)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 11 ? Acronym : SPS-P-SYCN2 This course is designed to introduce students to the actual study of nationalism as a social and political phenomenon. Early lectures focus on the efficacy of typologies for making sense of variation among instances of nationalism, and on the relative merits of comparative and case study approaches. The latter half of the course features a series of guest lectures by staff from around the university (and sometimes beyond) whose primary research involves nationalism. This exposes students to the diversity of cases and research approaches. Lectures are complimented by a series of student-led presentations and discussions on particular cases of nationalism. This course is designed particularly to help prepare students for writing dissertations on substantive topics within the field of nationalism studies.
