Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

After successful completion of this course, the student will have:
- an understanding of the social and historical context of the collection of texts known as "the Bible";
- an understanding of the literary conventions found in those texts; and a familiarity with some of the interests and concerns of modern biblical scholarship; and will be able to:
- identify different literary genres found in the Bible;
- apply a variety of interpretative methods to biblical texts; and
- assess different theories of the origins and interpretation of the Bible.

Assessment Information

Assessment is based on two 1500-word essays (15% each), regular attendance/participation in a course seminar (10%), a written degree exam (60%)
