Acronym : HCA-3-AlronEur This course examines the background to the radical change in the nature of the Iron Age record from temperate Europe around the third century BC, which is marked by increased evidence for centralisation, industrialisation etc in the middle and late la Tene periods. The course focuses on the Francophone world, but includes appropriate wider comparisons, while retaining the western focus. A reading knowledge of French and German would be desirable. A sound knowledge and understanding of the principal sources of evidence and theoretical and methodological approaches relevant to the study of the initial Iron Age of western temperate Europe, placing evidence from Gallia in wider geographical and theoretical perspectives.
