Sociolinguistics of Modern Scots (U00459)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 10 ? Acronym : PPL-3-SMS-EL This course involves a study of the relationship between social class, gender, occupation and other social factors in determining the pronunciation, syntax and vocabulary of speakers of English in Scotland today. Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Students will have a sound understanding of the sociological features affecting the use of English in present day Scotland as well as those factors influencing ongoing change. Students should be able to progress to independent research in this subject.

(1) Coursework providing 50% of the final mark.
