This course is particularly concerned with the current policy context as it constructs and constrains the community work task. It aims to locate and analyse those policy discourses which inform the context of practice and to identify what spaces exist between competing discourses and demands in which to develop a critical, competent and coherent community work practice.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

Identify relevant policy developments
Recognise and analyse the ambivalence of state policy
Articulate the contradictory relationship between politics, policy and community work practice
Articulate potential areas of 'relative autonomy' in professional practice
Identify possibilities and problems in the current policy context

Assessment Information

A Paper of 2500 words will be required at the end of the term in which the course is taught.
