Community Education Professional Practice 1 (U00573)

This course focuses on developing practice competence in a supported setting. Participants will relate their Year 1 academic studies to the practice context where they will undertake professional tasks in a controlled and developmental way. The emphasis is on understanding processes of informal learning and development on the basis of first-hand observation and interaction. Students will have the opportunity to experiment with informal educational methods and be introduced to the idea of reflective practice.

? This course is not available to visting students.

? Pre-requisites : This course is only available to students who have been admitted to the BA Hons Community Education programme.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

- Assessing competence in terms of the CeVe Competence Framework
- Preparing learning objectives for the placement period
- Managing time more effectively
- Setting appropriate work related goals and action plans
- Distinguishing between different approaches to practice
- Applying the principles and practice of informal education
- Demonstrating learning from reflecting on practice

Assessment Information

Assessment of the placement is carried out on a pass or fail basis by the fieldwork supervisor, based on evidence of competence against explicit performance criteria.Students will also complete an essay (2000 words) commenting on how they have developed as a result of engaging with the taught and practice elements of the BACE Year 1 programme.
