Globalisation and Communities (U00611)

This course examines the significance of globalisation as the context for community education practice. It explores dimensions, controversies and definitions of globalisation, to provide a framework for developing a critique on the impact of globalisation on communities. This informs an exploration of responses to globalisation from civil society, the emergence of social movements and campaigns, and community development.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

Show an informed understanding of the key features of globalisation as a political, ecomomic, social and cultural phenomenon.
Critically examine the dimensions, controversies and definitions of globalisation.
Evaluate responses to globalisation from civil society.
Critically assess the significance of globalisation as the context for community education practice.

Assessment Information

A 2000 word paper to be submitted at the end of semester 2.
