This course introduces participants to a range of social scientific perspectives. The intention is to engage students in critical exploration of a range of educational contexts and questions and thereby to examine the utility of theory as a professional tool.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

Exhibit critical awareness of the diversity of social scientific theory.
Identify the contested nature of theory and select appropriate theory for given contexts.
Justify selected theories and support with relevant source material.
Demonstrate applicability of social science theory or theories to educational purpose/purposes.

Assessment Information

A written assignment (2500 words) to be submitted at the end of the course
