Connectionism and Cognitive Psychology (U00722)

The goal of the course is to provide a critical understanding of the influential connectionist approach to cognition. The individual chapters of the set book will be supplemented by very recent, or in press,journal papers giving an insight into research in progress. Important phenomena in various aspects of cognition will be introduced before outlining connectionist models of the processes. In many cases the subject matter will complement other courses dealing with cognitive and neuropsychological phenomena. Although connectionist models are implemented on computers, the course does not require any facility with computers or computer programming.

? Pre-requisites : Normally Psychology Methodology 1 (U00651) or equivalent.
