Architectural Design 1A (U00734)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 8 ? Acronym : ACE-1-AD1A The course seeks to encourage an enthusiastic approach to knowledge and skills appropriate to the practice of architectural design. The emphasis is on the relationship between architecture and imagination, and the design process as iterative, a process of inquiry and reflection. Students therefore work on a continuous series of design exercises and projects which require individual or group submission of models, constructs and drawings. Entry Requirements? This course is not available to visting students. ? Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
An ability to visualise architectural space, and an understanding of architectural drawing conventions.
An awareness of rigorous and disciplined processes of the evolution of an architectural idea, from intention to proposition. An ability to explore an architectural idea from intention to proposition. A basic ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and visually. A basic understanding of design principles and theories. An appreciation of the relationship of buildings to their physical and cultural context. An ability to respond to a given brief. An ability to draw and to model as both investigative and presentational devices. A basic understanding of the technologies, environmental design and methods of construction inherent in the design and construction of buildings with specific focus on construction/building processes. An ability to work and contribute as part of a group. An understanding of the value and importance of the review/critique process in architectural education with the development of listening and critical appraisal skills, and participation in this process Assessment Information
