Technology & Environment 2 (U00738)? Credit Points : 40 ? SCQF Level : 8 ? Acronym : ACE-2-ADT&E2 Technology & Environment 2 builds on the first year courses Technology & Environment 1A & 1B. The course develops an ability to assess and analyse buildings in terms of their construction and performance and by doing so obtain an understanding of the integration of the various social, technical and environmental requirements. Students will study the relationships between structure, construction and materials in the context of building design; will pursue the application of sustainable building practices and will learn methods of qualitative and quantitative assessment of environmental performance, including daylighting and acoustics. The interdependence of these components is set within the broader context of a comprehensive and coherent discussion of architectural design theory ? Keywords : technology environment architecture construction cladding structural systems materials components buildings microclimate facades sustainability light Entry Requirements? This course is not available to visting students. ? Pre-requisites : Technology & Environment 1A and 1B; Architectural Design 1A and 1B ? Co-requisites : Architectural Design 2 ? Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
The principal learning outcomes are:
To acquire an understanding and knowledge of the principles of building structures, environmental design and construction methodologies. To apply these principles to: human comfort and well being, a sustainable future, the natural world, material use, process of assembly and structural principles. The ability to employ such knowledge and understanding in the student’s architectural design proposals and academic portfolio. Further development of an understanding of integration and inter-relationship of building fabric, environmental performance and design theory Assessment Information
Ecology & Environment (Semester 1):
1x2 hour examination (25%) 2x items of coursework (12.5% each = 25%) Building Fabric (Semester 2): 1x2 hour examination (25%) 2x items of coursework (12.5% each = 25%) Exam times
