Acronym : ACE-3-AHGeddes The course explores the work of the Scottish urban planner, sociologist and ecologist, Sir Patrick Geddes. His theory of the city, practical urban renewal schemes and planning work are examined, and placed in the context of contemporary European architectural and urban thought. Entry Requirements? The students will:
Have a knowledge of both the theory and the concrete proposals and realisations of the urban thought of PatricK Geddes Understand the ideas of Geddes in their relationship both to the Scottish tradition of philosophical enquiry and within a broader European context Acquire a knowledge and understanding of the emergence of the discipline of town planning in the early 20th century and its relationship to architecture, urban design and ideas about the city. Acquire a critical understanding of ideas and themes discussed by architects and urban planners as part of the emergence of Modernism in the early 20th century Assessment Information
