A survey of the main historical, technical and cultural developments in Western music from 1980 to the present day, including case studies of significant musical texts.

? Pre-requisites : Music 2B: Set Works OR Music 2C: Introduction to Compositional Techniques, where students are not on a BMus degree programme.

- Use of primary and secondary texts in musicology.
- Knowledge of the principal musical, intellectual and cultural trends in the period.
- Practical engagement with musical texts in the form of performance, analysis and criticism.

Presentation (10%), one c.3,000 word essay (45%) and one 2-hour examination (45%).
