An introduction to digital signal processing, including the writing of audio applications using the MAX/MSP programming environment. Projects will include group work and the development of real-time audio systems. Lectures will include technical and contextual topics.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

- Understand the basic techniques of digital signal processing.
- Write real-time applications for controlling and processing audio using the MAX/MSP programming environment.
- Develop real-time audio applications for collaborative projects.

Assessment Information

Two creative projects (50% each).

N.B. The assessment will involve a compulsory ten-minute presentation to the examiners by each student, or in a group where appropriate to the project, the times for which will be arranged individually and in advance. The presentation is not part of the assessment, rather it takes place merely to expediate access to computer software configurations that are otherwise difficult to document.
