Composition 4 (U00907)

This is an advanced composition course in which students will explore their own musical language and its relationship to mainstreams and currents in the wider compositional world. They will show full knowledge of where their own ideas may draw on the ideas of others and may conceivably, though not necessarily, break new ground.

? Pre-requisites : Research Methods in Music Studies and Composition 3.

? Prohibited combinations : This course is not available to students on the BA Humanities and Social Science.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

- Students will have learned to develop their musical language as far as possible at this advanced level.
- They will have become competent and consistent in the practice of composition in their chosen media.
- They will have learned to submit scores to professional standards of preparation.
- They will normally have had the experience of having one or more works performed during the course.

Assessment Information

One portfolio of at least 3 original and contrasting compositions (100%).
