Ethnicity, Class and Power in 20th Century Africa (U00954)? Credit Points : 40 ? SCQF Level : 10 ? Acronym : HCA-4-ECP This is a 4MA-course which runs over Autumn and Spring terms. It deals with the relationship between three important variables in twentieth century African history - namely, ethnicity, class and the struggle for political power. Although reference is made to other examples, the particular case-studies that have been selected are Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa. Entry Requirements? Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
To inculcate an understanding of comparative approaches to
African history, as well as an appreciation of debates relating to the specific country studies. To develop transferable analytical, theoretical, and presentational skills along with a practical awareness of cultural difference. Assessment Information
Two essays of about 3000 words each (one third of overall assessment); two two-hour examination papers (two-thirds of overall assessment).
