Greek Language (A) (U01152)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 10 ? Acronym : HCA-3-GKLANGA The course aims to promote linguistic accuracy, to improve skills in translation from Greek into English, and to develop stylistic and generic awareness. Half of the course will relate to regular written practice in unseen translation, with feedback both by individual annotation and by discussion in tutorial when work is returned. Half of the course will relate to the study and discussion of style and genre, with passages from texts prescribed for the purpose. Oral discussion and formative written work will provide the opportunity for feedback on progress. Entry Requirements? Pre-requisites : A pass in Greek 2A and Greek 2B, with an average of 50% or above in the two courses combined. ? Special Arrangements for Entry : In order for a student from outwith Classics to be enrolled on this course, contact must be made with a Course Secretary on 50 3580 in order for approval to be obtained. ? Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the course, students should be able to demonstrate in the written degree examination:
- that they can translate into good English a range of 'unseen' Greek texts, both prose and verse, with a high degree of fluency and accuracy; - that they have achieved competence in a range of skills-based topics in Greek language. In addition, they will have improved their linguistic abilities in general, their analytical skills, and their literary appreciation. Assessment Information
