Women in Twentieth Century Europe (U01604)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 10 ? Acronym : HCA-3-WTCE This option studies the changing condition and status of women in Europe (including Britain) from the end of the nineteenth century to c.1990, with special focus on the two world wars. Among the subjects considered are: gender and modernisation; women's health and reproduction; the gender-based division of labour and and changing technology; women in the public sphere: employment outside the home, educational and professional opportunities for women; differences and similarities in women's experience under dictatorships of left and right; the 'total wars' and 'emancipation'; gender and consumerism; how has the twentieth century changed women's roles and aspirations? General students require a pass in European History 1 or its equivalent. Entry Requirements? Pre-requisites : A pass in any first level historical course and any second level historical course or equivalent. Visiting students should normally have 3 to 4 History courses at grade B or above. Assessment Information
One essay of about 3000 words (one third of overall assessment); one two-hour examination paper (two-thirds of overall assessment).
