Japanese 3 Dissertation (Preparation) (U01717)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 10 ? Acronym : LLC-3-U01717 During the requisite period of time spent at a university in Japan, students will undertake preparatory work for the dissertation. A general topic, in an area of Japanese History, Society or Culture, should be approved by the Convener for Japanese by the beginning of the student's third year. Preparatory work will normally include the following elements: 1) Reading in English and Japanese on the general topic identified 2) Identifying a specific research question and planning how to address it 3) Collecting and assimilating research materials and conducting fieldwork 4) Regular contact with a member of staff in Japanese Studies at Edinburgh. Students are required to submit the following by the last day of the third year of study: 1) An introductory section of about 2000 words 2) A detailed dissertation plan 3) A bibliography Entry Requirements? This course is not available to visting students. ? Pre-requisites : A pass at 55% or above, at the first attempt, in both Japanese 2A and Japanese 2B, as well as passes in the other subjects comprising the curricula of the first and second years. The completed dissertation submitted in year 4 (see Japanese 4 dissertation: completion) will be the basis for the summative assessment of credits taken in years and 3 and 4.
