A dissertation does not necessarily aim at exhaustiveness within its field or topic, nor does it need to incorporate original research, although both elements (i.e. exhaustiveness and originality) may be apparent in the completed dissertation.
Assessment Information
Literature review (40%), formal dissertation proposal(40%), presentation (20%). Alternatively, other appropriate preparatory work may be assessed instead (e.g. edition of text).
