Writing Women C.1400-1600 (U02059)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 10 ? Acronym : LLC-3-U02059 This course will introduce students to writing by and about women in the medieval and renaissance periods. The writers studied will include Julian of Norwich, Margery Kempe, Mary Sidney, Elizabeth Cary, Aemilia Lanyer and Lady Mary Wroth. These writers span the period c. 1400-1600 and the texts they produced include prayers, poetry, drama and autobiography. The material these writers produced was primarily related to their religious beliefs, consequently a familiarity with the Bible would be an advantage to students taking this course. However, some women writers also produced rather more 'secular' texts during this period and, as an example of this, we will pay special attention to Lady Mary Wroth's romance, The Countesse of Montgomerie's Urania.
