Arts and Community Action (U02133)

This course will examine theory and method in the development of creative and collaborative educational practice. It is intended to introduce students to a range of theoretical frameworks and practical techniques for engaging imaginatively with community groups on issues of common concern, using the arts and other media. It will explore the relationship between the affective, intellectual and expressive dimensions of human experience in the creation of purposeful learning.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

- To demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between affective, intellectual and expressive dimensions of human experience as they relate to educational practice.
- To demonstrate an understanding of the historical significance of creativity in expressing collective identity.
- To demonstrate familiarity with a repertoire of creative approaches and strategies which can be utilised to explore social and political issues.
- To articulate and debate ideas about culture, arts and community.

Assessment Information

Students will be required to submit a paper of 2000 words around a selected theme
