For 2nd Semester Visiting Students only (please note that lectures/tutorial are with Edinburgh students enrolled on the full year version of this course). This course provides an introduction to the discipline of ethnology with particular emphasis on Scotland. Topics covered include the history and development of ethnology, folklore and folklife, cultural representation and heritage.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course students should have:
1. actively engaged with core ethnological texts and other media.
2. an appreciation of and familiarity with modes of cultural reprentation
3. a increased awareness of key themes characterising th study of the cultural traditions of Scotland.

One essay of 2-3000 words (40%)
One exam (50 %)
