Pre-requisites : An introductory course to the structure of the English language or an introduction to linguistics. (In cases of doubt, please contact the course organiser.) ? Additional Class Information : 1 tutorial per week, on either Thursday afternoon or Friday Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
1. The course will give students an introduction to variation (both geographical and social) in English today.
2. The course will give students an overview of how English and Scots have developed from the earliest records until the present day, especially in relation to external historical developments and language contact. Assessment Information
One essay and one assignment, each constituting 50% of the final mark for the course.
