Outdoor Education: Reflection in Action 4 (U02254)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 10 ? Acronym : EDU-4-OERA This level 10 course draws upon knowledge and skills developed throughout the programme. The major element of the course is the opportunity for students to plan and implement an outdoor education programme. Planning and outdoor education teaching will be linked to broader curriculum goals and the notion of critically reflexive teaching. Students will evaluate the programme design and their own teaching within that programme. Theory will address UK school curriculum, programme development, hidden curriculum in teachign and learning, reflection-in-action and critical reflexivity. Assignments will allow students to apply their knowledge of educational objectives, curriculum frameworks, outdoor environments and activity skills, to programme development, practical teaching, critical analysis and reflection. By the end of this unit students will be able to:
1. demonstrate an understanding of contemporary UK school curriculum frameworks, 2. critically analyse the UK school curricula in relation to outdoor education philosophy and practice. 3. demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between educational objectives, programme design, outdoor education teaching, reflection-in-action and evaluation, 4. design an outdoor education programme for a specific group, 5. use a reflection-in-action model to teach in the outdoors, 6. demonstrate an understanding of the role of the 'hidden' curriculum in teaching and learning in the outdoors 7. critically evaluate the programme design, their own teaching and practical skill levels.
