Celtic Revivals: Writing on the Periphery,1890-1939 (VS1) (U02362)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 10 ? Acronym : LLC-3-U01992 The course will explore the similarities and differences between the national revivals in the literatures of Ireland, Scotland and Wales and their relationship to modernism. The different ways in which "peripheral" literatures seek to establish their identity will be explored in the formal innovations which are adopted by writers from the three cultures. Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Students who complete the course successfully will develop their knowledge of the literature of three cultures in the modernist period, with specific regard to issues of cultural centre and periphery. They will enhance their ability to read critically and comparatively and to engage with an area of specialist research not otherwise available to students at Edinburgh.
