Advanced Strategic Management (VS1) (U02434)

This option follows on from Strategy and General Management, Business Studies 2/3 and is only open to these students. It explores in greater depth issues at more corporate level, reviewing a slightly wider range of strategic planning/consulting tools of analysis and theoretical perspectives, and looking at how these approaches are actually applied nationally and internationally. We cover additional contexts such as professional services and the public sector. The course complements more specialist options.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course the students should:
- be aware of alternative perspective on the processes of strategic change,
- have an understanding of alternative perspective of corporate and business organisation,
- appreciate the differences between shareholder value and stakeholder approaches to strategic management
- appreciate key corporate governance issues and wider stakeholder considerations.

Key Skills
On completion of the course report students should:
- be able to formulate strategies for the management of organisational change,
- be able to identify and assess alternative organisational models in response to strategic challenges and the national and international level,
- be able to formulate strategies taking into account the concerns and interests of various stakeholders of an organisation.

Assessment Information

Course Assignment 50% of the total marks
and one 3000 word min essay 50%.
