Greek 2B (U02605)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 8 ? Acronym : HCA-2-GK2B The course advances the student's knowledge of the Classical Greek language and literature, and develops the ability to read independently in Classical Greek literature with a linguistic and literary understanding of the original texts. Entry Requirements? Pre-requisites : A Pass in Greek 1, or Greek 1B, or Greek 1D, or at the discretion of the course organiser. ? Special Arrangements for Entry : This course is divided into two halves of five weeks each, with a guided reading week between them to allow for consolidation and for preparation for the second half of the course. Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course students should be able to:
- demonstrate in coursework and examinations a wider and deeper knowledge of the structure and idiom of the Greek language; - demonstrate in essays and examinations an enhanced ability to locate works of Greek literature in their literary, social, historical, and intellectual contexts; - demonstrate in essays and examinations an ability to analyse and pass informed critical judgement on specific works and passages - demonstrate in coursework and examination essays an ability to locate and use relevant forms of primary and secondary evidence in building up a coherent and relevant argument. 1 essay of 1500-2000 words; weekly linguistic exercises;
1 (2-hour) degree examination paper. Class work - 40%; degree examinations - 60%. Exam times
