Business Studies Long Essay (U02737)

? Credit Points : 40  ? SCQF Level : 10  ? Acronym : MSE-3-BSLE

This is an independent study programme where students work directly with one or more staff members to develop and complete an independent piece of research. The subject of your Essay is your responsibility and must be on a Business Studies theme. It must relate closely to the country in which you spend your year abroad or be on a continental European theme. The subject of your Essay must deal with a contemporary issue. Essay topics chosen by students in previous years include: an examination of how the Spanish retail company Zara became so successful; the contemporary and historical influences on the decline of the small business in France; the effect of water shortages on businesses in Spain; the effects of the expansion of the EU on trade and industry; advertising in post-Soviet Russia.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

- Research skills: planning, executing and reporting research;

Assessment Information

Business Studies Long Essay 7-10,000 words excluding the bibliography, references and front page. Your Essay must be in English unless your supervisor agrees to its being in your language of study. For MA German and Business Studies students the Essay must be written in German.
