Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

Students will:
- gain an understanding of the work of major thinkers about music, its meanings and its socio-cultural traditions;
- gain the ability to understand theoretical and aesthetic systems and relate theory and practice to each other;
- learn to relate musical works to the broader context of the history of ideas.

Assessment Information

An essay c.3,000 (40%) and a 2-hour degree examination (60%).
