Reproductive Politics and Policies (U02833)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 10 ? Acronym : SPS-4-SPS The course looks at ways childlessness, low fertility and infertility are constructed as as political issues; the role of state and market in providing services; strategies for regulating the fertility industry, with regard to the welfare of children; issues of identity in donation and adoption; problems of defining parenthood; debates over the regulation of conception including selection by gender or (dis)ability; and ways of engaging or gauging public opinion regarding new forms of conception. Examples will be drawn mainly from Europe and the USA. ? Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
The course will introduce students to reproductive politics and policies associated with falling fertility and the development of new technologies for assisted conception. The course will give students an opportunity to learn about
