European Studies Dissertation 1 (U02837)

A split-dissertation, undertaken in 3rd and 4th year Honours, in the area of EU Studies and providing a focus of 3rd year abroad for the purposes of assessment. The topic for the dissertation is identified whilst abroad (3rd year Honours), when initial research and planning is conducted. The dissertation is further supervised and written up in 4th year Honours. The dissertation is written in English and is of no less than 18 pages and no more than 24 pages in length. Supported by written response to draft plan at Semester 2 vacation in 3rd Year (1 contact hour per student); 2 meetings between student and supervisor in the 4th year. Students also have access to non-graduating induction classes in year 4 (4 contact hours).

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

The student will have engaged in a substantial piece of independent research; the student will have developed research skills; the student will have demonstrated the ability to use foreign language material as an information source; the student will have working knowledge and critical understanding of the current literature in the chosen field of study. The student will be able to demonstrate the following - the clear placing of the chosen topic in a relevant context; the framing of evaluative questions to be addressed; the marshalling and assessing of evidence; the ability to sustain logical arguments; the acknowledgment of source materials; and the drawing of well-substantiated conclusions.

Assessment Information

Dissertation, no less than 18 pages and no more than 24 pages in length. Paper: A4 size, Portrait form Font: Times New Roman; Font size:12 Margins: All 1 inch (2.54 cm) Line spacing: 1.5 Footnotes/endnotes font size: 10.
