The Russian Soul Through the Russian Language: A Cognitive View (U03294)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 10 ? Acronym : LLC-4-U03294 The aim of this course is to provide Russian Studies Honours students with an intellectual perspective on the discipline of cognitive linguistics, with particular emphasis on the Russian language "picture of the world". It will introduce the cognitive models relating to Russian culture, develop students' understanding of a variety of issues connected with Russian mentality and broaden the scope of their expertise in the Russian language. Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, students should have a basic knowledge of theoretical concepts and methodology connected with the modelling and study of the "picture of the world" in the Russian language. They should be able to analyse and comment on a number of cognitive models (concepts, frames, etc) relating to Russian culture. Students will work with Russian texts of different genres and dictionaries. This course will help students acquire and develop important transferable skills such as writing commentaries and essays, improving analytical thought, good use of electronic resources, use of Cyrillic keyboard, etc.
