Scandinavian Literature for Children and Young People (Ordinary) (U03331)

The course will focus on the range and development of Scandinavian children's literature 1945-2000, examining a wide selection of primary texts. A variety of theoretical issues and critical approaches relevant to the study of children's literature will be covered. The interaction and fluid boundaries between children's and adult literature will form an additional focus.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course students will be expected to show the ability:
- to demonstrate sound knowledge and understanding of the chosen specialism(s)
- to recognise and acknowledge the complexity of the subject
- to show an understanding of and apply competently relevant concepts and theories
- to construct coherent arguments which demonstrate an awareness of the problems posed by the texts/issues studied
- to demonstrate a high level of expression in both written and oral presentations
- to offer alternative perspectives and show an awareness of contrasting viewpoints.

Assessment Information

1 essay of 3000 words(30%), 1 exam paper of 3 hours(70%).
